Zlatibor; evenings by the fire; and summer school for learning traditional crafts such as pottery, knitting, mosaic-making and graphic skills.
Staro Selo (Old Village) in Sirogojno is a museum under the sky keeping and presenting the traditional architecture, material and spiritual heritage of Serbian villages in the mountains of the Drina region.
About 50 original traditional Zlatibor log-cabins with about 2000 exhibits represent a unique collection in a unique compound in original surroundings.
The Museum is open every day and there are a great number of visitors (over 100.000 per year). With the help of the guides, films and published material, the visitors are transported in the world of their ancestors. There one can see not only the houses and other buildings for various purposes but also household objects and village tools which were made to meet the simple needs of the people from different times in the past. Modelled after the ancient masterpieces of the village craftsmanship, and made of clay and wood, there are many authentic souvenirs available for tourists.
The museum in Sirogojno is the meeting place of the researchers and creative people from all over Serbia who attend summer schools, seminars and various educational programmes with the aim to become familiar with their own cultural heritage and to implement it in their own creations. The publishing of various materials by the cooperators of the museum is an important contribution to the better knowledge of the heritage of the Serbian village.
Many visitors find the special recreational compound especially enjoyable and convenient for active rest. The nearby old village inn offers the old and almost forgotten national dishes, organic and healthy food that evoke sentimental longing for a way of life which is lost forever. There are also wooden cabi-ns that offer loggings.
The furniture is wooden and crafted in the old village style. The rooms are heated with open fire-places. Everything is designed and constructed to serve as an example and an indicatorthat the solution to everything, as regards both everyday life and tourism in this region, is to be found in the wealth of its tradition. The national heritage shows how man's needs can be catered to in harmony with the natural habitat which is the main requirement of the modern ecological movements.
In the vicinity, there is the Knitting Museum which treasures the local tradition of knitting. The original project of the preservation of folk tradition made the village of Sirogojno famous for its handmade knitwear all over the world.
