The centar (downtown) of Zagreb and Croatia - The square of ban Jospip Jelacic. Jelacic *Jelacic* was born in Petrovaradin, at the time part of the Slavonian part of the Military Frontier of the Habsburg Monarchy, which today is Vojvodina, Serbia. He was the son of Croatian Baron Franjo Jelacic Buzimski (or in other documents, Franz Freiherr von Jelacic) (1746-1810) a Lieutenant Field Marshal (Feldmarschall-Leutnant), and Anna Portner von Höflein of Austrian origin. He was educated in Vienna at the Theresianische Ritter-Akadémie, (today Theresianum).
